established in 1993
The Weatherwood Homestead first emerged when a Pennsylvanian couple with an eye for the Old West discovered an enchanting wooded property at the edge of the Columbia Mountain Range in the northwestern Montana town of Columbia Falls. In true tribute to the area's homesteading heritage, they recovered logs from an ancient granary in the ranching and logging town of Demersville, Montana (now land just east of Kalispell) to build Weatherwood's Main Cabin.
Today, guests can glimpse an inscription in one of these very logs that speaks to this western heritage: Demersville 1893. The unusually wide plank flooring inside the rustic main cabin has Pennsylvanian origins.
The current owners of the estate fell in love with the property in 1993 and subsequently purchased the Weatherwood Homestead, intending to use it as grounds for breeding and raising American Quarter Horses. With the help of a local builder, they eventually completed what is now Weatherwood's Honeymoon Cabin, built the main cabin's stone porch, and constructed New England-style barns, one of which now serves as a reception venue for weddings and other events. A family patriarch named the property Weatherwood as it is a Kentucky tradition to name one's horse farm.
A family wedding on Weatherwood grounds invited the possibility of using the property as a vacation destination and authentic Montana wedding venue. Every year, Weatherwood hosts three very special destination weddings during Montana's midsummer.
Visitors from around the globe visit Weatherwood year-round, savoring the rich grounds and the healing proximity to Montana mountains.
The Weatherwood Homestead is owned, managed, and staffed by local artisans who take immense pride and joy in the property's rare heritage and rustic beauty. All visitors walk lighter and truer here at the Homestead.
